The hard day, and the sun is shining again. We packed the camp and left in the direction to Umba. At the fuel station we had to wait some time for new fuel. Then we went from Umba to Kirovsk at a very hard enduro track of 164km: tracks with big stones, much water crossings, more than enough mud, old bridges and a lot of fun for us of course.
We made a coffee stop somewhere at a really nice place in the woods and Ari took a bath. KTM and BMW were diving during water crossing, at Anja`s bike we had to take some water out of the exhaust J, sometimes I get stuck in the mud and I learned a lot of how to get out the bike of that kind of situation! We made a good teamwork and Ari had a lot of to do with pulling, pushing and riding the bikes through… Respect, Mika always wanted to drive at the last position to film the others and that was not easy with the BMW, which have 40kg more than most of the KTM.
The time was going on very fast. It would be colder later, so we changed our clothes against some wormer and dry ones. 5th and last time wet feet and I think all of us had the same feeling! 😉 Time goes by, then road went bigger and sunset began with wonderful mountains in the front. After a tank stop and 20km we met Aki, Ali + Jonkko at the new camp place. 254km and 11hours later there was the tent build up and food was ready, thank you service team!!!
The camp place was nice, but the silly Russian throws everywhere their waste, unbelievable! At midnight Anja came with a birthday cake for me and some gifts from my family.
We all were singing and the finish guys tasted “sparkling-vodka”. (some of them hate me for that now J) , good to know, that we tomorrow drive on asphalt! Thanks a lot for that great day…
My birthday and I`m feeling much older today then yesterday… After breakfast we all packed the camp in the service car and continue on boring asphalt roads to the boarder. (luck with my condition) Near the border we wait for the car and when they came they told us about a flat tyre at the car and lot of work to change it. We needed nearly 2 boring hours at the Russian border with some stupid paperwork. At the Finnish boarder they looked in my passport and said: Happy birthday and welcome to Finland, thanks… We stopped at the Polar Circle to make some memorable photo with the riders.
At the short gravel part to some nice holiday houses Jonkko tried to catch a reindeer. Ali organised a beautiful area with nice woodhouse, real beds and sauna! After sauna and dinner Sakke, Jaska and Mika came with great birthday presents: sauna thermometer, sauna infusion medium, a bottle of special finish snaps and bread. Thank you very much!!! I went early (10:00h) to bed and saw a really nice full moon in the night. 351km riding that day.
To be continue……
